As much as I love sourcing mid-century furniture for my clients I know some have been reluctant to purchase dining tables. This is largely due to their tendency to mark so easily, due to ‘water staining’, created from wet glasses or dinner plates.

It was terrific to learn from Paul Ternent last week, owner of Radar (furniture store) in Fitzroy, about a two-pack coating which he has developed and applies when restoring Danish or Italian mid-century, dining tables and desks.

The coating not only protects the table tops but also manages to highlight the beautiful grain of the timbers these tables are made from. Since developing this application, unique to Radar, Paul says sales of tables and desks from his showroom have increased tremendously.
